Outlook 05/01: Stock futures jump after Microsoft, Meta surge on earnings. Meta Platforms posted stronger-than-expected revenue in the first quarter. Microsoft also reported top- and bottom-line beats in the fiscal third quarter, as well as strong results from its Azure cloud business and upbeat guidance. Shares of Microsoft were up more than 8% in the premarket, while Meta shares gained more than 6%. Other names like AI chip darling Nvidia also rose more than 4%. Weekly jobless claims jumped to 241,000, more than the estimate of 225,000. That jump exacerbated further concerns about the economy after the weak first-quarter GDP report earlier in the week and raises the stakes for April’s nonfarm payrolls reading on Friday.
