Outlook 06/18: Stock futures moved higher ahead of Friday’s session after Federal Reserve Governor Christopher Waller said inflation was tame enough that the central bank could cut rates at its next meeting, a more optimistic view than Chair Jerome Powell gave on Wednesday. Traders also bid stocks higher slightly as oil prices pulled back with President Donald Trump saying he would hold off deciding on an Iran strike. However, tensions still remained high as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is reportedly ordering Jerusalem’s military to strike “strategic targets” in Iran, as well as “government targets.” Trump is weighing direct U.S. involvement with a strike on Tehran, with the White House on Thursday saying that he will make a final decision within the next two weeks.

The event can lead to higher volatility and more trading volumes, with high-frequency traders trying to take advantage for quick arbitrage opportunities. It happens four times a year - on the third Friday of March, June, September and December - with much of the increases in activity taking place during the open and last hour of trading, otherwise known as the "witching hours." On these high volatility days, a lot of money could be made and lost but your first trading rule is 'manage your risk', sizing small with less /ES emini contracts or using /MES micro futures.
